Odds and Ends

Seems as though it has taken me a week to catch up on sleep, dirty laundry, and house cleaning from last weekend. I made my kids clean their room and somehow they'd managed to keep a basket and a half of dirty clothes in their rooms! No wonder why I couldn't find their clothes to wash and they complained every morning they had nothing to wear to school. Haha!

Friday I cleaned off my crafting/sewing area and got it all organized yet again. That night I sat down to add borders or frames to my quilt. First sewing I've done since last weekend! I thought I had my quilt done, but then I decided I'd like it just a little bit longer and wider, but I had no more material to continue with the 9 patch blocks. Last week, I had bought these fabrics to use as borders for my quilt. To make a long story short, the local quilt shop's measurements ended up sending me home (in my case out of state) with not enough fabric to go around my quilt like I had explained. I had planned to leave my quilt with my mother-in-law so it could get quilted, but I ended up bringing it home with me so I could finish the borders. Monday I went and bought more material, made some changes, and here's the final quilt top...

I'm thrilled with out it turned out! I have enough extra left over of the fabrics I can make shams for my bed as well! I'm sending it off to get quilted on Monday or Tuesday. I can't wait to get it back and all finished!

Hope ya'll have a wonderful rest of the weekend and if your in the area (like me) that's supposed to be getting bad storms w/possible tornadoes tonight...stay safe!

A Little More Detail

I posted about the new additions to my stash on Tuesday, but I'd like to revisit them again and give you a little bit more detail! IF you don't mind. hehe Here we go...

1. I bought from walmart in Arkansas. They have pre-cut fabrics that come in 2 yard bundles.

2. & 3. From Marshalls Dry Goods in Arkansas as well. Click their name and you can look at some of their stuff. The purple is for making a dress for my Princess and 3..well I just liked the fabric and had to have it. :)

4. Also was purchased at Walmart. The best part...Clearance! Woot woot! lol 2 yards                                                                         (1 each) of coordinating fabrics.

5. Taken from my mother-in-law's stash. LOL Actually, my mother picked them out and asked me to make her a purse like mine.

6. I added 4 more of these awesome Hello Betty Retro by Chloe's Closet for Moda. I'd love to link it, but apparently it's hard to find and out of print. I snagged up the last my local quilt shop had of these.

7. Another purchase from the walmart clearance section. 2 yards a piece.

                                                         8. More random fabric I pulled
                                                         from my Mother-In-Law's stash.

Hopefully I haven't bored you with the details. I'm just super excited about it all! Thanks for looking!!

I want to paint fabric

I have found another crafty/sewing combination I that I MUST get into! I think there is unlimited possibilities to painting your own fabric designs. Jessica Jones over at How About Orange does a tutorial on how to make this awesome freezer paper stenciled scarf!

Picture from How About Orange's Tutorial
Go here to check it out and then tell me you aren't inspired to go buy some freezer paper and some fabric paint to get started!

So many people are doing this now and I LOVE the look of it! I knew I just had to get on board!! It looks like so much fun. Yesterday, while getting some groceries I added some freezer paper to my basket so I can make stencils. Today, I made the purchase of some Jacquard Textile Color Paint. I got this (pic below) set of 8 colors and then ordered a lighter Purple and a Pink. I cannot WAIT for them to come in! Hoping to hit some thrift stores this weekend and find some shirts to redo for my Princesses!

Sending lots of creative dust your way!

My Deadly Plant

<----- Remember this flower? (Don't mind the ps3 game controller in the background)

Yes, that one! The one my sweet hubby got me for valentine's day...Yeaaaaah. Well, we've decided it's a deadly flower. Now we're not talking literally, but we're calling it deadly. It has now been moved outside,on the back porch, right in front of my double doors. It's too pretty not to look at! I see it every time I open up my blinds on the door. I just can't smell it. I'm okay with that!

This flower is a Pink Oriental Lily, or Stargazer. It's beautiful, but it stinks. That's what I said.....it reeks to high heaven!  The thing has been moved to so many places in the house (usually to the room we aren't in)  because we just cannot stand the smell! We've actually talked about taking it back! Haha! (I did ask the lady at the store if they'd take it back. I just got an "ummmm....probably.") Hubby and I have also decided that the smell is making us extremely sleepy. Coincidence? I think not! Maybe. Okay,  more than likely, but we like to pretend that's why. Hubby also tells me that it's deadly to cats. I realize I've only shown pictures of one cat, but we actually have two. What's that saying about how the prettiest is usually the most deadly? I rid my house of the deadly plant, i.e. Pink Oriental Lily. Have any of you ever had this problem with flowers?

I am currently trying to build up my stock and I have joined their monthly club! I got my first set of solids in the mail last week! I chose fat quarters, but they allow you to choose which size you want from fat quarters, 1/2 yard, or even 1 yard cuts! What's even better?! It shows up on your door step every month with no worries and no fuss! So don't waste any more time and go sign up like I did!!! ( I am not receiving anything for this. I am just merely excited and want others to have this same opportunity.)

Happy Stash Building!!!

Fabric Shopping

I finished the majority of my quilt top last night! I decided to put a 2 inch brown frame and a 4 inch frame around it as well. So...off to the quilt shop I go! I had a hard time matching my quilt with what they had in stock, but I ended up with these...
The brown will be the 2 inch frame (Marbles by Moda), the middle will be the 4 inch strip (batik, not sure), and the blue will be the binding (Marbles by Moda)

I also picked up these cuties...4 fat quarters...also put out by Moda, but not sure the designer.

Anyways, those are my yummy goodies I got today! Can't wait to finish up my quilt. I want to do a while different back for the quilt so it can be reversible.

Off to finish up my quilt! Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

Quilt in Snow

There's just something about making a quilt and having pictures of it in the snow. I'm not finished with my quilt yet, but I don't know if we'll be getting anymore snow so I took advantage of what we had to get a few pics. Most didn't turn out so good, but I like this one okay so it'll be the only one I share. This is my first quilt and I'm making it queen sized and this is only the top. :)

Comments would be appreciated! I have a few more rows to do and then it'll be ready to send off and get quilted. My biggest problem is trying to decide what back to use. Anyone have any suggestions? I'm pretty desperate at this point for ideas.

Sending warm and cozy vibes your way!!

Random Pics (heavy)

Here's some pictures I took this morning. Just seems to be several photo ops when I have my camera handy.
This is CJ. He is my new sewing buddy. He's laying on my cut pieces for my quilt.
 Totally loving this pic!!

More snow this morning. This is an hours worth of snow fall.
See how it's fuzzy? That's snow falling still.
Trying out my macro setting on my camera.
Even my 7 year old is crafty! She did this in art class at school. Lost a pom pom on the way home.
Does this purchase make me an automatic crafter? No clue what to do with these.
Elmer's glue is for valentine's day projects my kids will be doing.
I also purchased stuffing (obviously not pictured).

Hope everyone has a good Monday! Happy creating!

Dresden Pin Cushion

I tried my hand at two new things today. The first thing I did was try Dresden plates. If that's even the right term. LOL The second was a pin cushion. It was definitely an experience. Plus it was mini Dresden shapes. Much of it was done by hand since they were so small. Here's how it turned out...

I've been working on my quilt this weekend. I've only got 4 9 patch blocks done. It seems like such a slow go. Ugh! Hoping it'll go quicker though so I can get it done.

Linked this post up to
So go check it out!

Until next time...sending creative dust your way!

Another Project Done!

Finally got the divider curtains done that I've been sitting on since September. I was so scared to cut into the fabric in fear of butchering it. The fabric is Cherish Nature by Deb Strain that I had bought a local quilt shop. I had no clue about fabric or designers or anything and just bought what I liked. It was the ONLY thing I liked in the shop. So I think I did pretty well. Here's the finished product hanging up. It's used to hide my laundry room.
Below is a close up of the material.

I'm going to be making a couple tie backs with what little bit of the brown material I have left so that I can tie the curtains back when I'm doing laundry.  Off to go finish up the tie backs!

Have a great day!

Cracks Me Up!

Here's a photo I took on Monday of Princess #3 during nap time. It cracks me up every time I look at it.
I love this cat! He's crazy! See his paw? He's a "mitten kitten"  and has 8 claws on that one paw and 7 on the other. Princess #3 is wearing what's suppose to be a chef's hat.

Hoping to finish up some curtains today. Thought I had finished them Sunday, but I decided to put them up higher on the wall so I'm going to add another strip of fabric along the bottom. Pictures to come soon, but here's a preview of the fabric. It's Cherish Nature by Deb Strain for Moda. I bought it from a local quilt shop about 5 months ago and I'm just now getting around to doing something with it.

Have a great day!
